The pensioner who allegedly drove into a crowd of Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) supporters at a rally at Outapi on Saturday has been granted bail.
Kavila Kautwima (73) appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was granted bail in an amount of N$3 000.
He was charged with attempted murder, and his case was postponed to 17 August.
IPC spokesperson Imms Nashinge claims the suspect is a Swapo member.
The incident took place during an IPC rally, which also saw the opening of a party office at Outapi.
Swapo coordinator for the Omusati region Sacky Kayone this week said he did not know whether Kautwima was indeed a Swapo member, and said he could not comment on the incident as it is before the courts.
He condemned acts of political intimidation.
