Reggae musician Ras Sheehama is celebrating his 58th birthday in style on Friday with a concert at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre in Windhoek.
The artist will be turning 58 on Sunday (29 July).
Sheehama says he wants to take the opportunity to entertain and educate “and tell the young ones that yes, you can come this far”.
“I have been around for reggae music. The only time when you find me making noise like this is when I have something happening. And yes, it is happening tonight at the FNCC, Acoustic Friday. The doors will be open from 19h30, and I will be performing by eight o’clock,” he said.
Asked how he has maintained a good bill of health over the years, Sheehama said he has worked on a routine combination of healthy eating and exercising.
“Eat more ginger, more lemon if you can. More roots, and I think it also comes from the genes. Even this morning, when I am shooting videos, I go to the mountains and try to jog and walk,” he said.
The Friday concert will also see him belting out some new songs off his latest project, while an album is in the offing, expected by the end of the year.
“I have some singles, but you have to follow me. The world and music have evolved. You have to check on Facebook, TikTok for my latest work,” he said.
Although he is getting royalties from European radio stations, Sheehama said he is still to make a lasting and stronger impact on the globe.
“I am not that big internationally, you understand, to tell you the truth, but I have been around. Just yesterday I received about 350 euros from Italian radio, just to mention a few. This is how I am, and I am still working to get bigger like any other bigger name in the world,” he said.
