Swapo’s Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was yesterday duly elected as president-elect of Namibia when she won the presidential elections with over 630 000 votes. Her party also won the national assembly elections, albeit by losing 12 seats completely diminishing their two-thirds majority. This is a dip from the party’s 2019 performance where they had 63 seats in parliament, just one short of a two-thirds majority. So what does a female presidency mean for this young democracy? To unpack this were joined by political analyst Johan Coetzee.
