Superintendent Marceline Murapo discusses unpaid traffic fines.
December 13, 2024
A list of motorists with warrants of arrests has been made public by the police recently, and with the festive travels now round the corner, the head of unpaid traffic fines will be hitting many. Just to paint a picture of how motorists struggle with their traffic tickets, last year alone, in the third quarter they were owing a whooping N$2,9 million.
The figure was from October 2023 while by that time a total of 2 876 outstanding fines were logged by the police. By July of this year, The police in the Oshana region had issued more than 5 000 warrants of arrest to drivers with outstanding traffic fines last week. Oshana police spokesperson Thomas Aiyambo told The Namibian that unexecuted warrants of arrest against dodgy drivers have increased in the region.
City Police Superintendent Marceline Murapo joins Daybreak to help unpack this.
