Peter Limburg on the importance of a free media
March 27, 2025
In the past year, we’ve seen growing threats to media independence across the world—from government crackdowns on journalists in Africa to controversial media laws in Europe.
And now, the United States’ decision to defund the Agency for Global Media, which oversees outlets like Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, raises serious concerns about the future of independent journalism.

To help us unpack these issues, we were joined by Peter Limburg, director general of German international broadcaster DW News, to discuss the importance of free media, the impact of these global shifts, and what it all means for press freedom in Namibia and beyond.
