Government medical interns threaten to stop working overtime within the next five days

OVER 300 government medical interns are threatening to stop working overtime within the next five days if the government does not pay them their outstanding funds. The group of Ministry of Health and Social Services interns yesterday took to the streets of Windhoek to demonstrate against their poor working conditions and hand a petition over to the Office of the Prime Minister at Zoo Park. Group spokesperson Dr Lindford Rhodes said they are yet to be paid overtime remuneration despite the labour commissioner recognising medical interns as ministry employees. Rhodes said the interns will revert to working eight hours a day and 40 hours per week with no overtime duties, as directed by the Health Professions Councils of Namibia from 19 to 25 November.
