Nafimane Hamukoshi unpacks expectations for NNN maiden SONA speech
April 23, 2025
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is preparing to deliver her first-ever State of the Nation Address, a landmark moment in her presidency as she outlines her administration’s vision for a prosperous and inclusive Namibia. With a significantly leaner cabinet of just 14 ministers, she is signaling a shift toward streamlined governance and accountability.
But the new president inherits a nation burdened by deep-rooted challenges—including crippling poverty, homelessness, rampant corruption, and stark inequalities in wealth distribution.
High unemployment, particularly among the youth, remains a pressing concern. Yet, hope is on the horizon, with promising oil and gas discoveries offering a potential economic lifeline.
But beyond the symbolic gestures and political theatre, the real question is: Can President Nandi-Ndaitwah deliver meaningful change? What should the public expect from her address—beyond rhetoric and parliamentary talk-shows?
To unpack the stakes and expectations, we were joined by Nafimane Hamukoshi, a social justice activist and strong advocate for a Universal Basic Income Grant.
