Modestus Amutse discusses the issues surrounding plans for Sam Nujoma’s funeral proceedings

February 17, 2025

[PODCAST]

The body of Namibia’s late founding president Sam Nujoma will travel from Khomas to seven regions starting 20 February, with processions and state memorial services planned. The Namibian reports the regions include Omusati, Oshana, Erongo, Kavango East, Zambezi, Otjozondjupa, and //Kharas, ahead of his state funeral on 1 March at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek.

This follows queries from the Geingob family about why financial constraints halted a similar plan for late president Hage Geingob last year. President Nangolo Mbumba has declared 1 March a public holiday.

Deputy Minister of ICT Modestus Amutse joined Daybreak to shed some more light on this.
