Harold Akwenye on repairing potholes around the capital

April 11, 2025

[PODCAST]

We dived into an issue that affects every Windhoek resident—from the heart of Katutura to the hills of Klein Windhoek. The recent rains have left a trail of destruction across our city’s roads, drainage systems, and public infrastructure. The City of Windhoek has estimated the total cost of repairs at a staggering N$324 million.

Now, the question that’s on everyone’s mind is this: Would we even be in this situation if our roads had been built right from the start?

If routine maintenance was consistently carried out, and if the right materials had been used in the first place to construct roads designed to withstand the rainy seasons—would this level of devastation have been avoided?

We were in conversation with CoW spokesperson Harold Akwenye to help us unpack this issue.
