Duminga Ndala discusses the chaos at the National Youth Council
December 17, 2024
The National Youth Service has had a tumultuous weekend as it attempted to put together a new leadership, which has now seen the election of members hailing from the country’s oldest student organisation, NANSO. Sport, youth and national service minister Agnes Tjongarero over the weekend fired the entire National Youth Council (NYC) board. In a letter on Friday December 13, Tjongarero cited various cases of misconduct, including dishonesty and the mismanagement of funds. NYC delegates gathered at the NYC Rietfontein Training Centre to elect new leadership over the weekend. But that new leadership is dominated by members from Nanso to the detriment of other student formations that checkerboard Namibia’s student politics terrain.
Duminga Ndala from LPM’s Youth Command Element shares her thoughts with Daybreak.
