Advocate John Walters on Anti-gay bills

Human rights activists celebrated President Nangolo Mbumba’s refusal to sign two bills by Swapo parliamentarian Jerry Ekandjo, which sought to criminalise same-sex marriage and advocacy. The bills, passed without a two-thirds majority, raised constitutional concerns, as confirmed by Minister Christine //Hoebes.
Former Ombudsman John Walters called the decision wise, likening the bills to apartheid-era laws.
