Yonela Sinqu sheds light on the common challenges sex workers face

March 10, 2025

[PODCAST]

Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo has called for the regulation of sex work, arguing that criminalization is ineffective and only pushes the industry further underground, increasing risks for both sex workers and the broader public.

He highlighted that despite being illegal, sex work remains a reality in Namibia, with many young men and women engaging in it—often in secrecy.

To unpack this further, we were joined by Yonela Sinqu, the Communications Officer at Sisonke National Movement, an affiliate of the Global Network of Sex Work Projects in South Africa.

She shed light on the common challenges sex workers in the region continue to face and provide insights into South Africa’s legal progress in addressing the issue.
