Oshakati police arrest two men for attempted robbery

Written by on July 12, 2024

Two men were arrested at Oshakati on Thursday after the police received intelligence that they were allegedly attempting to go on a robbery spree.

Oshana police regional commander commissioner Naftal Sakaria told The Namibian that the two men, who are suspected to be part of a criminal gang, were arrested on charges of attempted robbery following a police intelligence-led operation.

“We knew they were planning something. They are linked to previous robbery incidents. They had two rifles and about 20 ammunitions,” Sakaria says.

He says the police are planning to dismantle more gangs as they have identified and listed several of them in the region, adding that there is no place for criminals in the Oshana region.

“Last week, we arrested six from another gang that were terrorising people here, breaking into bars, smashing jackpots and stealing people’s money,” he says.

Sakaria did not indicate when the two will appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court.
