Officer denied bail after setting police vehicle alight

A police officer at Keetmanshoop, Uakuta Japuhua (37) , who attempted to take his life by setting a police vehicle alight, was denied bail in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Japuhua was charged with malicious damage to state property on Saturday.
||Kharas regional crime investigations coordinator Nicodemus Mbango says it is alleged that Japuhua drove the vehicle to the area behind Super Sand Keetmanshoop and set it on fire with the intent to take his life.
Mbango says it is alleged that the suspect went into the vehicle, closed the doors, rolled the windows up, and after he felt the heat of the flames he got out and tried to extinguish the burning vehicle.
The deputy commissioner says he was then found by friends who alerted the police.
“He opted to take his life between 04h00 and 06h00 in the field area behind Super Sand Keetmanshoop,” says Mbango.
Japuhua was arrested and taken to Keetmanshoop State Hospital for medical treatment.
He appeared before the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday, and the case was postponed to 18 June for further investigation.
The accused is remanded in custody.
