Nghipondoka attends summits in Egypt and France

Education, arts and culture minister Esther Nghipondoka has flown to France for a summit on accelerating progress towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 as well as taking stock of transformative actions in education.
SDG 4 focuses on quality education and forms part of the 17 SDGs established by the United Nations in September 2015.
The summit follows another high-level conference held last week in Egypt, where Namibia, Lesotho and South Africa sought lessons from the host country on digital schools.
Executive director Sanet Steenkamp, who is accompanying the minister to both summits, says Namibia is currently piloting digital education in 15 schools across the regions so far.
“The important lessons we have taken away from Egypt is that they started off making use of the domestic resources they have, similar to Namibia. They have made budgetary provision from a fiscus level from the treasury,” she says.
“Secondly, Egypt has opened up to the private sector, to companies and they have not given in to vendor locking and are not working exclusively with that company,” Steenkamp says.
She says the minister will take part in a dialogue about what countries are doing in addressing gender equality “in and through education”.
