National Assembly resumes on Tuesday

Written by on June 3, 2024

The National Assembly (NA) is set to start on Tuesday after a six-week recess and oversight visits.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the parliament said NA members need to address 18 matters which risk lapsing.

“Currently there are 18 items under discussion, which needs to be concluded by 11 July, else they will lapse,” the statement reads.

These matters include motions on the accessibility and affordability of alcohol and drug rehabilitation centres in Namibia, merging the National Youth Council with the National Youth Service, as well as investigating debt-collecting agency RedForce Debt Management.

Other issues are the consideration of committee reports on the motion to introduce free Wi-Fi in Namibia, a stakeholder consultative and oversight workshop on the Financial Institutions and Markets Act, as well as a petition on the management of Bwabwata communal land by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism.
