Namibia sends election observers to SA and Madagascar

Namibia has sent two observation missions for the South African and Madagascan elections, which are all set to kick off on Wednesday.
South Africa will conduct national and provincial elections while Madagascar is holding legislative elections alone, with presidential polls having taken place last year on 16 November.
Namibia’s observation team to Madagascar is led by ambassador Morina Muuondjo, while ambassador Elvis Shiweda is leading the team in South Africa.
According to the regional electoral observation mission leader, Justice Florence Mumba, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) observes elections in its member states based on the revised SADC principles and guidelines governing democratic elections.
“The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the legislative elections has been in Madagascar since 14 May 2024 and is expected to be in the country until 4 June 2024 to conduct the Short-Term Observation of the Legislative Elections,” Mumba says.
“Similar to last year’s presidential elections, SEOM has noted that the elections are governed by the constitution of the Republic of Madagascar and a comprehensive set of relevant laws,” she says.
The SADC Electoral Observation Mission, led by Enock Kavindele, has been in South Africa since 13 May 2024.
