John Tuerijama
• What role do you have at Desert FM and what do you enjoy most about it? I am a sport broadcaster, responsible for production and presenting the Sport Chat and The Ring. I cer- tainly enjoy the adrenaline of sourcing for exclusive ideas that mostly keep listeners on their toes, and the kind of music I play during the show which is mostly golden oldies – old school stuff.
• How would you describe your on-air style to someone who has never heard you before? My on-air style is unique but most importantly basic and grounded, meaning a listener will enjoy being in Big John’s one-hour journey. However, I do enjoy the compliments and praises I receive from those who religiously follow the sports programme on Desert FM.
• What’s the best part about working with the team at Desert FM? Working with such a dynamic team of young profession- als who are committed and determined to make a difference by informing and entertaining while also educating the general public through various discussions. Each individual knows their responsibilities and what to bring to the table to make Desert FM one of the best radio stations that engages and holds those in the positions of power accountable.
•What hobbies or activities do you enjoy that might sur- prise your listeners? Well I don’t know but I like counting my footsteps, especially walking from the store or simply alone on the street. I like stargazing at night and I love cooking, Oh yeah!
• I f you weren’t on-air, which other career would you pursue? I am a sports journalist meaning I write sports stories, but I would have become an actor since I did some acting in high school and I dropped out of the College of the Arts because of poor funding. I will consider being a football coach but maybe it’s kind of late for that. How about farming, yes, that is something I think of now and then.
