Mbumba mourns Hanse-Himarwa

President Nangolo Mbumba has expressed deep sorrow and shock following the death of former minister of education, arts and culture Katrina Hanse-Himarwa.
The former minister (57) was taken to a local hospital in Windhoek a week ago as she has been ill for a while. She died on Sunday.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mbumba described Hanse-Himarwa as a pivotal figure in the country’s journey to independence, emphasising her unwavering dedication to ensuring every Namibian child has access to quality education.
“Hanse-Himarwa’s passing is a loss that deeply affects our nation. She was not only a patriot, but a courageous advocate for educational reform and equity, and her contributions as a teacher and head teacher, as well as her tenure as minister of education have left an indelible mark on our educational system,” Mbumba said.
He said throughout her career, Hanse-Himarwa has been praised for her passionate commitment to teaching and educational leadership.
“Her reforms as minister of education were hailed as transformative, benefiting countless pupils and strengthening Namibia’s educational foundation,” he said.
The president extended condolences on behalf of the people and government of Namibia to Hanse-Himarwa’s family.
