Many eligible employees not part of GIPF

Written by on July 3, 2024

The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) is raising concern about a large number of eligible employees not being enrolled in its pension plan.

“Despite the requirement for all permanent employees to be admitted to the fund, we are currently experiencing a large number of unadmitted employees from participating employers,” says GIPF spokesperson Edwin Tjiramba.

He notes that approximately 75% of members not admitted to the fund are from the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.

GIPF has urged all employees to check their enrollment status.

“Members who are unsure of their admission status are encouraged to visit their nearest GIPF office or our website,” says Tjiramba.

Tjiramba further says there are concerns about the impact on the overall efficiency of the fund.

“Members are unable to receive accurate benefit statements, making it difficult to track pension growth for better planning for their future.

Additionally, the lack of timely enrollment creates opportunities for fraudulent activities.”
