Man killed at Swakopmund

Written by on June 17, 2024

A 29-year-old man was killed at Swakopmund on his way home from escorting his girlfriend to the DRC informal settlement on Sunday.

Erongo police spokesperson chief inspector Ileni Shapumba says the deceased, identified as Fimaneka Katjatako, was walking back home with a friend when he was confronted by two men that demanded to speak to him.

The deceased allegedly declined, which led to a fight between the victim and the suspect.

“The person who was walking with the suspect tried to stop the fight. In the process, the suspect pulled out a sharp object and struck the victim once on the upper chest near the neck, causing a very deep wound,” says Shapumba.

The suspects alledgedly fled the scene, while the victim stumbled towards his resident for about 50m and fell on his stomach.

He died at the scene.

The murder weapon was not found at the scene, and the next of kin were informed.

Shapumba says a 23-year-old man was handed over to the Swakopmund police by his mother on Sunday, in connection with the murder.

Police investigations continue.
