JSC gets new member to represent lawyers

President Nangolo Mbumba has appointed lawyer Yoleta Campbell, who is a member of the Society of Advocates of Namibia, as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Office of the Judiciary announced on Monday.

Campbell was nominated by the Law Society of Namibia to succeed Sakeus Akweenda as a member of the JSC.

She has been appointed as a member of the JSC for three years from the start of May.

Campbell is a graduate of Stellenbosch University in South Africa and has been a legal practitioner in Namibia since 2008.

The JSC’s functions include the making of recommendations to the president on the appointment of judges, the prosecutor general and the ombudsman.

The other current members of the JSC are chief justice Peter Shivute, deputy chief justice Petrus Damaseb, attorney general Festus Mbandeka and lawyer Elias Shikongo.
