I got former defence minister fired, exposed Fishrot scandal – Venaani

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani claims he caused the resignation of former defence and veterans affairs minister Peter Vilho.
Venaani made the remarks at the PDM election campaign rally at Okalongo in the Omusati region on Saturday.
“It’s me who pushed the former minister of defence to be fired. Vilho was fired because of me … I said, ‘you were taking money and you are talking too much, go open the books’, and he was fired,” he said.
Vilho, who served as defence minister for a year, resigned in April 2021 due to allegations of financial misconduct and potential irregularities involving his undeclared N$2,8 million in a Hong Kong bank account.
Vilho’s other Hong Kong account was linked to a N$1,8 million arms deal with the Chinese government 14 years ago, The Namibian has reported.
Venaani also said it’s because of the PDM that the Fishrot corruption scandal came to light.
The Fishrot corruption scandal involved prominent politicians and businessmen allegedly running schemes to gain control of valuable fishing quotas, which were then diverted to the Icelandic fishing company Samherji in exchange for kickbacks.
This scandal was solely exposed by the local media and Al-Jazeera.
