Hero’s funeral for Jimmy !Ha-Eiros

PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba has conferred a hero’s funeral on liberation struggle veteran Ida Jimmy !Ha-Eiros.
She died on 3 April at the age of 78.
Jimmy !Ha-Eiros led the Swapo Women’s Council and was one of many Swapo liberation fighters arrested in 1980 under the Terrorism Act.
Presidential spokesperson Alfredo Hengari confirmed the status of the funeral on Thursday.
“This was on the advice of the national honours advisory committee,” he said.
In his tribute to Jimmy !Ha-Eiros last week, Mbumba said she had a record that could not be questioned.
“She was such an imposing figure with deep roots in our struggle for liberation. She was imprisoned, she was tortured, and nothing could stop her in the fight for an independent Namibia,” the president said.
He said Namibia has lost a brave freedom fighter and community builder.
“We therefore pay our utmost respect to our heroine . . ,” the president said.
