The Namibia Film Commission (NFC) has announced the release of five new web series.
Funded during the 2023/24 financial year, these series are crafted by young, upcoming local film-makers, and will be available digitally on the commission’s respective platforms.
This initiative, representing an investment of N$270 000, aims to bring the dreams and stories of emerging talents to life.
NFC spokesperson Rebekka Malakia says the commission is impressed with the quality, depth and unique styles showcased in these productions.
“The series covers a diverse range of narratives, from the contributions of musicians to Namibia’s independence liberation struggle to tales of humour, friendship, daily life in Windhoek, and the experiences of an artist.
“The NFC’s support highlights its commitment to fostering local talent and enriching Namibia’s cultural landscape through innovative storytelling,” she says.
The web series included ‘Tsek’, directed and written by Inna Goroh and Jacob Sichilenge, ‘A’Felende’, a story on friendship, written by Lerato Kanime and directed by Sally Jason.
‘Politainment’, produced by Michael Kayunde, and ‘Ngandu TV’ uncover the crucial role of music in Namibia’s struggle for independence, telling the stories of artists and cultural groups whose songs became anthems of resistance.
It highlights the upbringing of Ras Sheehama and the formation of Ndilimani Cultural Troupe Ugly Creatures.
The series will run from 14 August until 6 November.
