Elderly, children benefits from charity initiative

Rehoboth Town Council (RTC), Helios Engineering Consultants (HEC) and the October Charity Foundation collaborated for a charity drive at Rehoboth recently.
As part of the project, the kindergarten at Ebenezer Church in Block E and the Rehoboth Old Age Home were visited.
RTC public relations officer Desire Pieters says the charity event, which forms part of the corporate social initiative of the respective organisations, was done with the aim of social accountability and making a positive impact on society by giving back to the communities in which they serve.
“The beneficiaries of the charity drive form part of the most vulnerable groups in the Rehoboth community, helping them ensure that their basic needs and human rights are met,” Pieters says.
HEC managing director Solly Kaimu says it is an annual exercise whereby they identify vulnerable groups in a different town every year to provide them with food, clothes and other essential items.
“The activities that were administered this year included a creative arts and craft session, drawing and face painting, as well as making friendship bracelets. There were also outdoor games and sport like soccer and relay races. At the old age home the initiators of the charity drive engaged in socialising sessions, musical entertainment by way of karaoke, while some senior residents engaged in sharing their life stories and experiences,” Kaimu says.
