A man (30) was arrested on Friday afternoon in Windhoek’s Babylon informal settlement after being found with cannabis worth N$13 750, said police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi in the weekend crime report.

The man allegedly possessed 275 grams of cannabis and was expected to appear in court yesterday.

Police investigations are ongoing.

At Swakopmund later on Friday, two Namibian male suspects, aged 23 and 25, were arrested during a police operation.

They were found in possession of mandrax tablets and cannabis with a combined value of N$13 290.

Another incident was reported at Mondesa, Swakopmund, also on Friday, when a suspect was found with cannabis valued at N$1 300.

In a separate incident at the same location on Friday, another man was arrested after police found him in possession of 925 grams of cannabis, valued at N$46 250, during police action.

Another man (26) was arrested during police action after being found with mandrax tablets.

The value of the tablets has not yet been determined.

In a separate incident, a police officer (42) was bitten on the stomach by a teen suspect at Oshihole village in the Onesi constituency on Saturday, said Shikwambi.

The suspect (19) was arrested on the same day at around 17h00, after the officer sustained a laceration as a result of the bite.

“The suspect resisted the order of the police officer while executing his duties,” Shikwambi said.

The suspect appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

In other reports, a woman (37) was allegedly raped and robbed on Friday at around 20h00 in the Oshikuku constituency, said Shikwambi.

The alleged suspect took a knife and threatened the victim before raping her, added Shikwambi.

It is further alleged that the suspect robbed the victim of her cellphone, valued at N$300.

No recovery or arrest has been made.

Police investigations continue.

At Uis, a man (45) was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman on Friday.

It is alleged that a neighbour heard noises and went to the scene. As soon as the suspect noticed someone, he fled.
The suspect has been arrested and police investigations continue.

Vehicle Accidents

Elsewhere, two separate motor vehicle accidents over the weekend at Ondangwa and Onethindi resulted in death, noted Shikwambi.

At Ondangwa on Friday, Ndjomba Nghidipohamba (33) lost control of his vehicle at the Indangungu curve, resulting in his death.

“Three passengers, aged 30, 31, and 31, sustained slight to serious injuries,” Shikwambi said.

Nghidipohamba’s next of kin have been informed.

Later that afternoon, on the gravel road between Oshipala and Olukonda, Uukelo Tomas (62) lost control of his vehicle, causing the car to overturn.

“The driver died on the spot,” Shikwambi said.

The other two passengers, aged 69 and 71, were transported to the Onandjokwe State Hospital for treatment of minor and serious injuries, added Shikwambi.

Tomas’ next of kin have been informed.
