Diamond Association enhances mental health unit

Deputy minister of health and social services Esther Muinjangue yesterday extended her gratitude to the Diamond Manufacturers’ Association of Namibia (Diaman) for donating to Windhoek Central Hospital’s mental health unit.
Diaman is a member-based organisation with representatives from diamond-cutting and -polishing factories.
The organisation’s donation includes furniture, sanitary items, chairs, medical equipment and mattresses to the value of N$132 000, and will extend to maintenance work valued at N$150 000 and renovations worth N$500 000.
Muinjangue praised Diaman for its pivotal role in enhancing facilities and services at the hospital.
“Today, Diaman has not simply donated, but invested in the future of healthcare in Namibia. Its philanthropic gesture, totaling over N$782 000 across multiple phases, reflects a profound commitment to improving the lives of mental health patients.”
She said Diaman’s support encompasses a wide array of essential items and services, including furniture, medical equipment, and maintenance projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure durability and patient comfort.
“Their investment transcends financial value, it enriches our community’s well-being and underscores the importance of private-sector collaboration in healthcare.”
Muinjangue further expressed her heartfelt appreciation.
“Their commitment not only supports our mission, but also sets a standard for corporate citizenship in Namibia.”
Diaman of Namibia treasurer Nikki Iithete said the donation involves more than just material gifts, it also represents the association’s collective efforts to provide better care, support and resources for those facing mental health challenges.
