Petroleum commissioner Maggy Shino says Namibia’s oil and gas resources must be exploited for the benefit of all Namibians.
Shino was addressing the ongoing three-day Namibia Local Content Conference taking place at Lüderitz.
The conference, hosted by the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), is running under the theme, ‘Empowering Namibia’s Energy Ambitions through Local Content’.
“As the regulatory authority responsible for overseeing the development of Namibia’s petroleum resources, the petroleum directorate is deeply committed to promoting local content participation.
“We are working tirelessly to create an enabling environment that empowers Namibian companies to compete on a level playing field and contribute to the growth and diversification of our economy,” she said.
“It is about creating opportunities for local businesses to participate meaningfully in the petroleum value chain, from exploration and production, to downstream activities.
“One of the key priorities is to build local capacity and expertise in the petroleum sector,” she added.
NCCI president Bisey /Uirab called for local participation in the sector.
“We want to look at how Namibians can participate in the new economy. What are the opportunities, what are the possibilities, what can be done? It is important for Namibians to understand what is on the horizon and also to prepare themselves accordingly,” /Uirab said.
