Baby left in dunes at Walvis Bay
Written by on April 27, 2024
A baby of about one year old was found in the dunes at Walvis Bay on Saturday morning.
Erongo police spokesperson inspector Ileni Shapumba says the girl was found about 200m from the Walvis Bay road towards Swakopmund.
She was wrapped in a blanket and dressed in warm clothes.
“It is not clear who brought the baby there. However, observations made on the scene indicate that two people could have dropped the baby and returned to Kuisebmond at Walvis Bay,” Shapumba says.
The baby is injured and no documents were found on her.
She was taken to a place of safety, and social workers from the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare have been informed of the incident.
The police are investigating the matter.
The public is urged to assist the police in identifying the suspects or the baby’s parents.
Anyone with information can contact detective warrant officer Helena Kalipi on 081 240 8039, warrant officer Stephanus Ndinomupya at 081 367 1198, or the nearest police station.
