Amushelelo explains playing musical chairs with parties

Social activist Michael Amushelelo has reacted to critics labelling him a ‘political prostitute’ by saying he is exercising his rights.

Amushelelo, who joined the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) last week after leaving the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF), says he supported Swapo after independence as his parents were liberation fighters.

“Our parents forced us to support Swapo, because that is what they knew. I, however, saw that Swapo never fulfilled its promises, and things just got worse in our country,” he says.

Amushelelo says he joined the Affirmative Repositioning (AR) because it spoke to the needs of the people, especially when young people were demanding land.

He left the AR when he saw it was no longer living up to the expectations of the people to join the NEFF, he says.

Amushelelo has now left the NEFF due to its negligence, he says.

“I reiterate that despite my new political home (LPM) I will continue fighting for my people, irrespective of the party I’m affiliated to,” he says.
