American officials to help investigate aircraft crash

Officials from the United States of America will be part of a team to investigate the aircraft crash that claimed the lives of three people in Pionierspark, Windhoek, on Friday.
This was confirmed by Magnus Abraham, head of the Directorate of Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigations in the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The aircraft involved in the fatal crash, a Cessna 406, was made in the US.
“The United States of America as state of manufacturer for the aircraft will be notified and they will be part of the investigations,” Abraham said.
He also stated: “I can confirm that an American-built light aircraft Cessna 406 crashed a few minutes to 17h00. The aircraft took off from Eros Airport with three crew members: two pilots and a maintenance engineer. The purpose of the flight was a test flight. After taking off from the airport they experienced mechanical problems and they attempted to return to the airport but couldn’t make it. All three members in the aircraft died.”
He said the aircraft wreckage will be moved to Eros Airport and a preliminary accident investigation report will be issued within 30 days, with a full report to be issued within 90 days by the minister of works and transport.
