Oshakati to build sewage treatment plant

Written by on July 15, 2024

The Oshakati Town Council plans to construct one of the biggest sewage treatment plants in the north.

The project is set to cost about N$34 million and is the result of increased urban migration.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development has made an amount of N$7 million available for the construction of the plant, while the remainder of the budget would come from the council’s coffers.

Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango says the existing sewage ponds have reached their lifespan.

“The existing ponds were only designed to accommodate the number of houses at the time, but now they are filled to capacity and cannot accommodate the high number of townhouses.”

Hango says water from the sewage treatment plant will be reused for agricultural purposes.
