Ondangwa informal settlements get gravel roads
Written by on July 13, 2024
Six informal settlements at Ondangwa have received gravel from the Ondangwa Town Council as part of improving accessibility to the locations.
Speaking to The Namibian on Friday, Ondangwa council spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho said the council in May launched the project to upgrade existing roads in the informal settlements to gravel roads.
The informal settlements are Onantsi, Uupopo, Ondiiyala, Omakulukuma, Omashaka and Okangwena.
The upgrade was done at a tune of N$800 000.
Shitalangaho said the hauling is outsourced while the leveling and blading is done by the council technical team.
“This initiative is aimed at improving infrastructure and accessibility in these areas, particularly during the rainy season. The upgrade to gravel roads is expected to address the challenges faced by residents and vehicles due to poor road conditions,” Shitalangaho said.
