Legal Assistance Centre receives boost to update database

Written by on July 12, 2024

The Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF) on Wednesday made a N$168 000 donation to the Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) to update the organisation’s database.

This database is freely available on the LAC’s website and can be used by legal practitioners, the judiciary, the press and the general public.

The database is the most comprehensive online legal resource of its kind in Namibia.

LAC director Toni Hancox, during the handover, said updating the database is vital to preserve the capability and understanding of those who need to access and use the law.

She said new laws are enacted and regulations amended regularly.

“It is therefore important that the LAC’s database is kept up to date,” she said.

LAC provides free legal services to Namibians, while the LPFF investigates allegations of theft of money or property by legal practitioners admitted to the profession by the Law Society of Namibia.
