Electoral commission concerned about turnout at registration points

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is concerned about the low turnout in voter registrations for the upcoming elections as only three weeks remain.
This was said yesterday by ECN chief electoral officer Peter Shaama in a media briefing.
“While acknowledging slight improvement in turnout during the week of 1 to 6 July compared to the previous week of 24 to 29 June, the commission still notes with concern the low turnout recorded countrywide thus far,” he said.
“The commission urges all eligible Namibian citizens who have not yet registered to do so within the three weeks remaining,” he said.
Shaama said there is no window of opportunity for extending the period of registration of voters.
Registration will continue across the country and at all Namibian diplomatic missions abroad until 1 August, Monday to Saturday from 08h00 to 19h00.
