Namibia will be hosting the eighth National Information and Communication Technology Summit under the theme ‘Building Resilience to Adapt or Die in the Era of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)’.
During the launch in Windhoek on Tuesday, the minister of information and communication technology, Emma Theofelus, said digital transformation has become inevitable.
“Failing to adapt means falling behind, potentially leading to irrelevance or even extinction,” she said.
Theofelus said the education system needs to be reformed to prepare for the digital era.
“Our education system needs to be overhauled to equip our citizens with the necessary digital skills,” she said.
She said although the digital era presents opportunities there are also challenges associated with digital transformation and AI.
Theofelus called on both private and public institutions to play a role in the upcoming summit.
The event will be held in Windhoek from 9 to 11 September.
