TRANSNAMIB has announced an incident involving one of their locomotives at approximately 09h00 on Friday at the Ondangwa Train Station.
In a media statement on Friday, TransNamib spokesperson Abigail Raubenheimer said the locomotive had 26 empty wagons.
“We report that 14 wagons were derailed, while the locomotive and the remaining wagons stayed on the tracks. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and there was no product spillage as the wagons were empty. The impact was minor,” Raubenheimer said.
Raubenheimer noted that TransNamib promptly activated its emergency response plan.
“The affected area has been barricaded and the line has been closed to ensure safety and facilitate a thorough investigation. We sincerely apologise to our stakeholders and customers for any inconvenience caused by this incident,” she said.
“Please be assured that we are prioritising the restoration of service on the line. Our investigation team, along with the Emergency Response Team, has been mobilised to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident. We will provide updates as more information becomes available,” Raubenheimer added.
