After heavy rains on Thursday evening, former secretary to cabinet George Simaata announced that Independence Day celebrations, coupled with the inauguration of now president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah took place at State House as opposed to the Independence Stadium.

Namibians and analysts found this strange, considering former president Hifikepunye Pohamba’s inauguration also being showered with rain.

The ceremony was relatively short with no speeches from the opposition or countries and institutions.
