Grants expert Rinaani Musutua on S&T hike

The Office of the Prime Minister has announced an increase in the daily subsistence allowance (S&T) for civil servants, effective from April 1.

I-Ben Nashandi, the Executive Director in the Office of the Prime Minister, made the announcement on Monday, revealing that the rates have been reviewed.

While Nashandi did not specify the exact increase, he noted that maternity benefits are also currently under review.

The issue of S&T allowances for public servants has been a controversial topic in Namibia. Former Fisheries Minister Bernhardt Esau previously disclosed that ministers benefit significantly from these allowances, sparking public debate.

So, is now the right time for an increase in subsistence allowances?
