Tourism Recovery: Gitta Paetzold Analyzes Namibia’s Festive Season from 202
Three months before the festive season, Namibia’s third-quarter tourism statistics revealed a slight decrease in the national average occupancy rate to 63.46%, compared to 64.84% in Q3 2023 and 64.74% in Q3 2019.
The Northern region showed strong growth, reaching an occupancy rate of 68.21%, likely driven by renewed interest in rural tourism and improved infrastructure. However, the Coastal and Southern regions experienced marginal declines, with occupancy rates falling to 69.43% and 60.09%, respectively.
During the festive season, occupancy rates were expected to be driven primarily by domestic tourists, given the nature of the season.
Now, as we approach the end of the final quarter, has Namibia effectively recovered from the pandemic shock, and what are the prospects for the remainder of the year? To discuss this, we are joined by tourism expert Gitta Paetzold.
