Mozambique’s DAC Leader Mondlane to Return Amid Peace Deal Talks

January 8, 2025

[PODCAST]

Mozambique’s Democratic Alliance Coalition leader, Venâncio Mondlane, is set to return to the country after fleeing due to safety concerns following a disputed election.
This development comes as the ruling Frelimo party and the DAC prepare to sign an agreement aimed at ending the violence.
Mondlane, who has been vocal about alleged election rigging in October 2023, previously called for mass protests.
The ongoing unrest has drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some praising the violence.
However, Zimbabwe-based political analyst and columnist Gibson Nyikadzino has cautioned against endorsing such actions.
The key question remains: Can Mondlane’s return help ease tensions and support SADC efforts to broker lasting peace in Mozambique? Nyikadzino joined us on air to discuss.
