Human Rights activist Friedel Dausab reviews the year 2024
December 18, 2024
We kick off the year in review with Friedel Dausab, a Namibian human rights actvist, who successfully challenged the compatibility of the common law offence of sodomy and related offences with his rights under the Constitution of Namibia. On 21 June 2024, a three-judge bench of the High Court of Namibia ruled that the laws amounted to unfair discrimination and were therefore unconstitutional and invalid. Laws that have been amended and passed in parliament grew international attention and were looked at as progressive. Dausab looks back on 2024, a year of mixed fortunes.
