Saleh Hijazi discusses the fall of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria
December 12, 2024
The future of Syria has now been marked by uncertainty as rebels take over the country after the fall of Bashar Al Assad’s two decades’ rule. The dramatic end of the Assad regime has surprised many as it comes in the wake of the middle east still lit up by fires of war in Palestine and attempts at a functioning peace treaty in Lebanon. The leadership which constitutes the rebels is filled with elements that have past ties with the Al Qaeda terror group and Isis. The question now is will the community of nations be prepared to recognize the rebels as a legitimate government? At the same time, events in Syria have eclipsed the war in Palestine where many continue to be at the receiving end of poverty, homelessness, hunger and disease. Saleh Hijazi, Coordinator at the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee discusses what is happening in that region on Daybreak.
