The just concluded elections have been a nightmare for a number of first-time voters who had never been subjected to long, slow moving queues and ballot shortages.
Quite a number of young people who could not vote during the day faced the prospect of failing to meet the 9 o’clock deadline at which time polling was scheduled to close.
It had to take opposition party outbursts, demands for an extension of the deadline by some parties and ultimately an order by President Nangolo Mbumba to allow voting to proceed until Saturday. But this was not the case for all polling stations. Now with bickering holding sway across the political divide solely centered on what has been construed to be incompetencies by the Electoral Commission of Namibia, will this encourage young people to continue taking part in the voting process?
